Dollar Tree and CVS hauls

I've been pretty good this week, all things considered, but I have made some purchases that I thought I'd share with you today.

First let's start with Dollar Tree. I want to thank so many of you for leaving comments on the blog about the fact that Sally Hansen Insta Dri polishes have been surfacing at Dollar Tree lately. I finally had to go out and see what shades I could find in my area, but I NEVER expected this:

Do you remember the Spring 2011 Limited Edition Sally Hansen Insta Dri Collection? If so, you might also remember that I went nuts for this LE shade, Snappy Sprinkles. I neeeeded it, but I could never bring myself to pay full price for it, and by the time a good sale came around, the shade had vanished from my drugstores.

I never in a million years thought I'd find it almost one year later for $1 at Dollar Tree!

I can't even tell you how happy I am to finally, after all these months, have this baby in my collection. Yay for Dollar Tree miracles!

I also bought one of the newer LA Colors 3 Color Eyeshadows Palettes in Water Lily (see pic above) that I will review in an upcoming post.

Next up, CVS:

CVS prices vary from region to region, so these prices may be a bit different than what you find in your area:

Almay Line Smoothing Under Eye Concealer in Light
retail: $10.99
CVS beauty clearance sale price: $2.75

Revlon Just Bitten Kissable Balm Stain in Honey
retail: $9.29

Basics Essential Bag
retail: $7.37
CVS beauty clearance sale price: $3.69

I also used my CVS $4 off a $12 beauty purchase coupon from the red scanner box, bringing my grand total (before tax) down from $15.73 to $11.73.

Not bad, considering the full retail price of the concealer alone is $10.99!

Regarding my purchases, I wanted to get the Almay concealer because I don't think I've ever tried it before, and I've heard good things about it. Plus, I blow through concealer like water, so I always jump at the chance to buy extras for a good price.

I bought the makeup bag because I also tend to blow through makeup bags like water. I'm hard on my purses (a bad habit, I know) and even harder on makeup bags. I love clear makeup bags because I HATE digging around for things, so I couldn't pass this one up for less than four bucks.

And finally, I bought the Revlon Balm Stain because of YOU! After my review of the initial four shades I purchased, I received so many comments about what a lovely color Honey is, that I just HAD to grab it when I spotted it. So expect a future review of this shade, if you're interested!

Have you made any good purchases at Dollar Tree or CVS lately? I'd love to hear about them! Also, I'll be doing another CVS Beauty Clearance Master List update a little later--I've got some new products and shades to add!

  2. I actually bought 3 of the LA Colors trios yesterday-I got Water Lily, Iris, and Orchid. I REALLY want Forget Me Not but I can't find it anywhere but online.

    1. Oh wow! My DT only had two of the trios available. :(

  3. I don't know about your Dollar Tree, but I get most of my ELF Studio line things for $1 there. Also, a lot of my Revlon Limited Edition glosses and ALL of my Maybelline Mineral Blushes came from there! I hit DT and Big Lots before buying ANYTHING now!!

    1. Yep! I posted about elf studio stuff surfacing at DT a few weeks ago....they're on the DT website too! And I love BL deals too...I often post about BL sightings as well, like the big Philosophy cosmetics and CK cosmetics blowout a few weeks ago. Amazing! :)

  5. Dollar Trees close to me have the Insta dry polishes but did not find any good colors butI did buy a black...can't remember the exact name but I read that they are good for stamping but next time I go perhaps I should weed thru them again. Mainly I have been looking for the NYC blush sticks. So far nothing but I gather that they are trickling in from what I have been reading.

    1. Yep, I've been getting comments this week from readers who are just NOW spotting the NYC blushes, so there is hope!

My DT only had a few other insta dri shades....a rose creme and a bright yellow creme. I WISH mine had the black though, because i'm running low on black cremes! :(

  6. I got five of the LA Colors flower trios at my Dollar Tree. They were so pretty, I just had to have them! For a $1, the quality is not bad at all. I'm interested in your review.

    1. Thanks for the info! LA Colors Shadows are kind of hit and miss for me, but I've generally had good luck with the trios, so I can't wait to try and review this one.

  7. I am so in love with the Revlon balm stains. Honey is such a perfect everyday color and I'm actually wearing it right now!! lol I need to keep an eye on my DT make up aisle! All I ever see are very weird brands that I've never heard of.

    1. Omg, I just wore Honey for the first time last night and I totally agree. LOVE it so far! :)

  8. Awaiting your review on the LA colors... I actually bought three of them months ago and have never used them. People seem to love them or hate them, but too many very inexpensive products seem to be the victims of "brand prejudice" in my experience, and get a lot of negative reviews labeling them as "cheap junk" by those who have already made up their minds ahead of time and never give them a fair chance. I know your review will be unbiased.

    1. Will definitely review soon! And I agree that there's a love/hate thing going on with LA Colors, but you'll never find any brand prejudice here! Lol! ;)

  9. I recently picked up Snappy Sprinkles, Presto Pewter, and Grape Escape from DT. A while back I got a lot Xtreme Wears like Teeny Greeny Bikini [or whatnot] and Pumpkin Spice...unfortunately they were unusable in that they applied like water and had such weak pigmentation if would probably take half a bottle just to get opaque. My bottle of Snappy Sprinkles is watery as well but being a bar glitter I think I can manage it.

I've gotten so many things from CVS it's ridiculous. Last night I picked up three single Revlon eyeshadows for around a $1.25.

    1. Wow!! You found Pumpkin Spice at your DT??? I bought that when it first came out, and I agree that it's sheer, but it's a jelly so....kind of expected. :)

I tried Snappy Sprinkles last night and I totally agree with you...too much clear base, but with a little TLC I could make it work. :)

  10. I got 5 different palettes of the LA Colors. I LOVE them! They are so smooth and the color is very saturated. I feel like the best shopper getting these for a buck!

I didn't look closely at the SH stuff. I think I'll have to go back because I would really love to get Snappy Sprinkles. I love the name too!

The CVS stores in Orlando suck! I think because the stores are mostly run by men that the beauty department is a wreck. They don't seem to get any replenishment stock in. Just the new displays. I'm so reluctant to even go into the stores any more because it is so disappointing.

    1. So glad to hear you like the trios you got! And I agree...one thing with their trios is that usually the pigmentation is insane! :)

  11. Honey is the best color ever. I forsee this being my MLBB choice for the rest of my life. If they discontinue this, I will cry.

    1. Lol!! So....I guess you kind of like it, eh? ;) lol!!!!

I just tried it for the first time last night, and so far I can TOTALLY see what you mean. It's truly gorgeous!

  12. I found and purchased Grape Escape and Presto Pewter. They had a really nice red insta-dri also but I forgot the name. I have so many reds, I passed on that one. Still looking for snappy sprinkles.

  13. Your purchases at CVS were almost like mine!

    I bought:

Physicians Formula Nude Eyes Palette: $11.29 ($5 extra bucks back when spending $10 or more)
Revlon Colorburst Lipgloss: $2.07 (75% off)
2 Wet N Wild Megalast Nail Polish $1.99 Each (I got a BOGO free coupon from Scanner Box)
    $1 donation
Plus $4 off $12 cosmetic purchase

Bringing my grand total to be: $12.74 PLUS $5 Extra Bucks!

ANNND I got ANOTHER $4 of $12 Cosmetic Purchase!

I'm thinking about getting Honey (as well!!) and Rendezvous next time!!!

  14. From the dollar tree... You should definitely check out the la colors liquid eyeliner. I've been using eyeliners since I was 16 from high makeup end to all the drug store ones possible. But THIS has by far been the blackest ever!!! :) definitely try it out

    1. Hum...I've only tried one liquid liner from them and it was a long time ago (in fact, I think I even reviewed it here a few years ago), but I think the pigmentation was weak and, instead of being a true black, it ended up being a soft gray. Clearly I need to revisit their liners because the one you've described sounds AWESOME! Thanks for the tip! :)

  16. I bought ever color combo I could find @ Dollar Tree a few months ago, depotted them and made myself a great palette. Their colors are wonderful for the $1 price! You definitely get pigmented colors with these, and they pickup well with a brush.. you might need a primer to hold the color all day, but what brand doesn't?
I also picked up the private eye palette on cherry culture from la color not so long ago and <3 it! yay!

  17. Thanks so much for all the deals! I got sooo many insta-dries at my DT - Lightening, Chasing Chartreuse, Quick Brick, Teal-y Fast, Emerald Express, and Bronze Ablaze (they also had Presto Pewter, but I already owned it) - and they had a bunch of SH Diamond Strength, too. I totally scored.

  18. After reading your blog, I had to visit Dollar Tree today, and I found 3 Sally Hansen Insta-dri nail polishes, Snappy Sprinkles, Lightning and Blush rush. I found too, Sally Hansen Hard as nails, Hard as Wraps in sheer pink gloss, they had a lot of those. And A bar of Softsoap in juicy Pomegranate & Mango Infusions.

  19. I love going to my local Dollar Tree. They have the most random awesome makeup. I saw the same eye shadow palette but I didn't get it. And OMG I gotta hit up my CVS. The Almay Line Smoothing concealer is all time favorite concealer. I hope it's on sale at my CVS!

  20. G will you be doing swatches and a review on snappy sprinkles? I've looked online as I would like to see the polish by itself and all the photos that come up are over another color.

  21. We're just starting to get Dollar Tree in Ontario; they bought out another dollar store chain. I've been to one that's converting, but it had almost no cosmetics at all - definitely not the plethora of stuff I see you folks write about. I'm hoping that changes as the DT suppliers start sending stuff here. :)

  22. I picked up the under eye Almay concealer as well during the sale. Not sure how I feel about it--I'm don't usually wear concealer under my eyes, but I love Almay and I couldn't pass up the deal. I think it brings out some dryness under my eye that I don't usually notice because I try not to put much makeup under my eyes. I'll have to see how I feel about it in the long run, though.
