Drugstore Beauty on the Red Carpet: 2014 Golden Globe Awards

It's awards season again, which means it's time once again to show you which celebrities rocked affordable beauty products on the red carpet! The 71st Annual Golden Globe Awards were last night and here's a summary of some celebs who incorporated affordable beauty products into their looks.

Emilia Clarke - Sally Hansen Complete Salon Manicure nail polish

Emilia Clarke, the British actress and presenter last night who is featured on the hit television series Game of Thrones, got red carpet ready for the Golden Globes with a custom nail look created with Sally Hansen nail color. The talented and gorgeous starlet, who has recently been cast to appear in the next Terminator, has quickly become one to watch in Hollywood and a red carpet favorite.

Celebrity nail artist Lisa Postma created a sophisticated look for Emilia Clarke using Sally Hansen Complete Salon Manicure ($7.99) in Wine Not to complement her custom embroidered lace and black accented Proenza Schouler gown. To create the nail look, Postma used two coats of Sally Hansen Complete Salon Manicure in Wine Not on Emilia’s natural nail shape. For a smooth, flawless finish, Postma used Sally Hansen Complete Salon Manicure Dry + Go Drops ($6.99) to seal the manicure.

Lizzy Caplan - Burt's Bees

Hitting the red carpet for the 71st annual Golden Globe Awards, "Masters of Sex" star Lizzy Caplan dazzled as the epitome of understated glamour. "Because Lizzy's beautiful dress is so structured with amazing gold beadwork, I wanted to keep her makeup relatively simple," said Burt's Bees Lead Makeup Artist Katey Denno.

Katey began with Burt's Bees Peony Lip Shimmer ($5), followed by a super-hydrating coat of the Burt's Bees Caramel Daisy Tinted Lip Balm ($7) to lock in the subtle color.

Allison Williams - Avon

For Allison Williams' Golden Globes red carpet beauty, Avon Global Celebrity Makeup Artist Lauren Andersen created a classic sultry smokey eye to match Allison's black and white gown, complemented by a soft pink rose lip. Here's how to get the look.

First, Lauren groomed Allison's brows with Votre Vu Brow Wax. Next, she played up Allison's baby blue eyes with a classic smokey eye using Avon True Color Eyeshadow Quad in Urban SkylineLauren lined her eyes with Avon Glimmersticks Eye Liner in Blackest Black and then coated lashes with Avon Mega Effects MascaraOn Allison's face, Lauren applied YSL Le Teint Touche Eclat Illuminating Foundation and then dusted on Hourglass Ambient Lighting Powder in Radiant Light. Lauren swiped Laura Mercier Second Skin Cheek Colour in Rose Petal on the apples of Allison's cheeks. To complete the look, Lauren applied Avon Ultra Color Absolute Lipstick in Ripe Rose.

Laura Charmichael - John Frieda

Celebrity hairstylist Blake Burkholder gave Laura Carmichael super sleek, shiny hair for last night's red carpet. After seeing the Downton Abbey star's gown, Burkholder knew she needed a look that was both simple and strong. Inspired by women like Mary Quant and Gwyneth Paltrow, he gave her hair that would hold shape yet still have movement on the red carpet. The graphic lines of her dress influenced Burkholder to give the actress a shorter, sexier cut, resulting in super chic hair with a fresh edge.

Step 1 – Prep
Burkholder spritzed her wet hair with John Freida Luxurious Volume Root Booster Blow Dry Lotion ($6.99), working it through the roots to add extra lift and hold to Carmichael's blowout.

 Step 2 – Style
Next, Burkholder blowdried Carmichael's hair in small sections, ensuring each piece stayed sleek but maintained some volume at the roots.

 Step 3 – Perfect
Burkholder finished off the look by coating Carmichael's hair with John Frieda Frizz Ease 100% Shine Glossing Mist ($6.99), giving her smooth, frizz-free, and glistening hair all night long.

Naomi Watts - Jergens

Australian beauty Naomi Watts walked the red carpet last night in a skin baring dress showcasing flawless skin. To highlight her look, celebrity makeup artist Pati Dubroff used Jergens BB Body Perfecting Skin Cream ($12.99), the latest innovation from the experts at Jergens Skincare.

Cate Blanchett - Essie

The lovely Cate Blanchett complemented her Armani Privè gown with Essie nail lacquer in Au Natural.

Cate Blanchett was my personal favorite last night (makeup, hair and gown). How about you? Do you own any of the afforable beauty products mentioned above?

  1. The John Freida Root Booster is all I use. I've tried other volumizing products but just keep going back the JF one. It is excellent! Gives volume at the roots without being "sticky" or "crunchy". :D
