New Year's Day odds 'n' ends!

First of all, Happy New Year, my lovelies! I hope you're all enjoying the day and that you had either a magical, crazy, exciting night last night, OR a warm, quiet, peaceful one, depending on your taste and lifestyle. :)

As for myself, the boyfriend and I had ourselves a couch picnic and enjoyed a Mad Men marathon (I'm only up to the end of season 2 since we're watching it for the first time on DVD so pleeeeease no spoilers!). For dinner we made noodles with steamed broccoli, carrots and baked tofu--we poured a homemade peanut sauce over the whole thing and it was deeeelish. For dessert, I tried making some vegan chocolate lava cake (I'm not vegan but I like the idea of not using dairy products in dessert because, well, desserts are bad enough for you without the fat and cholesterol, right?). So back to the chocolate lava cake--it was a DISASTER. The banana I used was overripe and had a funky taste to it, then I misread the ingredients and added 1/2 a TABLESPOON of salt instead of 1/2 a TEASPOON, so the whole thing ended up tasting like a weird salty banana with bitter chocolate mixed in. We tossed it in the trash and ended up eating butterscotch chips (purchased to make cookies) straight out of the bag like candy for the rest of the night. No wonder I feel sick right now. :)

Right now I'm being incredibly lazy and switching back and forth on TV between the various marathons they're running: Barney Miller, Myth Busters, The Next Iron Chef and Most Shocking. And I can't wait for 8:00 tonight when E! airs Office Space, which I have probably seen 5,000 times but can never miss whenever it's on TV. [Office Space fans: I can do the BEST impersonation of "Corporate Accounts Nina Speaking JUST a moment" you have ever heard!]

But before I go back to being a couch zombie, I'd like to share some odds & ends with you! :)

1) My awesome pal Amber at Beauty Junkies Unite just did a fantastic review of the brand spankin' new Maybelline Lash Stiletto Voluptuous, which one of my readers informed me is a dupe of a Lancome mascara. Check out Amber's review here, and while you're at it, please send her warm wishes as she recovers from bronchitis. Get well soon, girlie!

2) PLEASE, if you haven't already, vote in my poll at the bottom of this page. I would LOVE to know from you, my dear readers, what you would like to see more of from me in 2010, so the results of this poll are extremely valuable to me. Please vote, ok? And thank you!

3) I've got an e.l.f. at Target update for you! The display that appeared at Targets across the nation back in October was actually part of a holiday promotion and it was never intended to be permanent (I just found this out last week). So if you've gone into Target recently and seen crazy clearance prices on e.l.f. stuff, that's why. But the great news is that e.l.f. WILL be back in Target stores PERMANENTLY, beginning in March of this year. I spoke to the Chief Marketing Officer of e.l.f. recently and they are very excited about what will be available--lots of single items, and the products will be from the e.l.f. line and the Studio line (no Mineral line products yet). I will be receiving a complete list very soon of what you can expect to see at Target in March, so please stay tuned. The minute I get it, you know I'll post it!

4) I want to apologize for really lagging on responding to comments lately. I LOOOOVE hearing from you and I treasure each and every comment I receive. I usually can respond to comments the same day they are received, but it's just been extra crazy these past few months. I know that when I leave a comment on a blog and I don't receive a response, I kind of take it personally. I always think, "What, did my comment not matter to the person? Did he/she just totally ignore what I had to say?" So BELIEVE me, I never want YOU to feel that way if you leave a comment here and I do not respond. I read ALL comments left on this blog, and I have every intention of responding, but sometimes I'm not perfect and life gets in the way. But I want to assure you that this is the ONLY reason for my lack of response. It's not because I don't find your comment valuable or unworthy of a response--I assure you that's not the case at all. I love you guys so much and I am constantly amazed at your wonderful, thoughtful, and insightful comments. So please, if a comment you have left here has gone unanswered, do not let that stop you from commenting again in the future, ok? Thank you!

5) Can you tell me if you are you enjoying the feature on my right-hand side bar, which is the articles from my Google Reader? I try to update it every single day with new beauty news that I discover from the various websites that I subscribe to, but if you don't find it interesting and you find yourself never even looking it, I want to know! I'd rather devote my time to things that YOU find useful, so please leave a comment here telling me if you love it, hate it or are just "meh" about it, ok? Thank you!

Thanks to everyone reading this for making '09 one of the most fulfilling years for me on a personal level. It was a big, scary step for me to start a beauty blog and I could not have done it without you. The fact that you spend even a second of your day on Nouveau Cheap makes me so happy that I want to skip around in circles and throw faerie dust into the air! :)

Bursting with love and gratitude,
R. xo

Review: American Apparel Nail Lacquers (spoiler: yes, you need them!)

Regarding the spoiler in the title of this post, let me clarify: if you love creme polishes then, YES, you need the new American Apparel Nail Lacquers. That's the short version, now here's the long version.

If you saw this post, then you know I was super excited to try this new collection, based on the color selection alone.  But then after reading more about American Apparel's first foray into nail polish, I was even  MORE excited to get my hands on some bottles.  It turns out that AA has been working with a family-run, New York-based nail polish manufacturer that has been using the same family secrets and techniques to make their polishes since the early 1970s. In fact, the family's 90-year-old grandmother still likes to hand-fill the bottles herself.

So the fact that AA has partnered with a company that's been making polishes for a loooong time gave me a lot more hope that these would be more than just your typical private label polishes that clothing manufacturers buy and just slap their label on. Plus, obviously these polishes are made right here in the USA, which is also fantastic, and helps take the edge off the price tag ($6 each).  It's wonderful to know I'm helping the US economy (which desperately needs it, as we all know) and also supporting a family-run business that cares about the products they make. OK, I'm stepping off my soapbox now. :)

So if you saw this post, you know what colors I purchased from the American Apparel website. Here they are again:

Here are my own personal takes on the colors (please note that ALL of the American Apparel polishes are cremes. There are currently no shimmers, glitters, etc.).

Hunter is a true 80s hunter green (I swear it reminds me of the towels I had in my bathroom during high school). They totally nailed it with this shade as it is the most spot-on representation of hunter green I have ever seen in a polish. It's not too dark, it's not too light, it's not too blue, it's not too yellow. If you were a child of the 80s, you are going to know this hunter green the minute you lay eyes on it. Trust me. It's perfection.

Mouse is a variation of the uber-popular mushroom gray-brown shades that are everywhere these days. But what sets Mouse apart from the rest is that it's lighter than say, You Don't Know Jacques, and it really IS the color of a mouse! For me it is the perfect blending of gray and brown. It's not too purple, it's not too yellow, it's right in the middle. And it's not so dark that it looks like a regular chocolate brown from a distance. You know that this is a true gray-brown from a mile away, and it's got enough gray in it to keep it from veering into the land of straight-up beige. It's got a modern, industrial vibe to it, which I love. It doesn't get much better than this, my mushroom lovers.

Mount Royal is named after a street in the Eagle Rock section of Los Angeles (Eagle Rock is known for its artistic, bohemian vibe).  My guess is that this polish's distinct shade of blue might have been inspired by the vintage street signs that still grace the area of Eagle Rock (but that's just my guess--I don't live in LA so I don't know a lot about Eagle Rock other than what I've just told you).  At any rate, Mount Royal is a blue polish lover's dream shade. It's got a worn (but not faded) denim quality to it (think indigo), and even though there is purple to this blue, it's not enough to make it one of those "is it a purple or is it a blue?" shades.  You know this is blue from the get-go, but it's an interesting blue that has a lot of depth to it. I adore it.

Here's the most important points I want to make about these polishes now that I've had a chance to test them:

1) They are SHINY. And I'm not just talking a little shiny. These babies shine like a MIRROR, without the help of a top coat. In fact, it was almost too much shine when I used my top coat (Sally Hansen MegaShine).

2) I am incredibly impressed by the level of opacity.  One coat and these babies are opaque--no streaks at all. I used two coats because, well, I'm a two-coat kind of gal.  But I swear I didn't need to use two coats.

3) I put Hunter to the 5-day test and I had NO chips.  Only minimal tip-wear and a loss of shine (which I blame more on my top coat than the polish).

So I guess what I'm trying to say is that these are quality polishes and you WILL get your money's worth here. In fact, the only complaint I have really isn't a complaint but it's worth noting:

I personally like a thin brush, and this one's on the thin side, for sure.  But the pitfall of having a thin brush is the possibility that you're going to have too much polish on the brush when you start to apply it to your nails. I had a few issues at first with polish dripping down the wand and on to my nail, so just be very careful that you run your brush, from top to bottom, against the opening of the bottle before you attempt to paint your nails. That should control the excess polish and save you some trouble on your initial application. Other than that, these polishes applied very smoothly on my nails--the formula is creamy and easy to work with--not too thick, not too thin, just perfect for me.

Let me put it to you this way: It's taking everything in me to not place another order ASAP for the rest of the shades in the collection.

I almost forgot--here are some pics:
Hunter, after FIVE days of wear. I used Orly Bonder base coat, two coats American Apparel Hunter, and one coat Sally Hansen MegaShine top coat.

Day two of Mouse. I'm in la-la-la-la-loooove, ladies.

The color of Mouse is NOT accurate in this pic (it looks more yellow than it really is) but I took it under florescent lighting because it was the only way I could capture the shine. Do you see it now? It's even shinier in person.
Day two of Mount Royal.  This baby was TRICKY to photograph but this picture is the most accurate representation of the color I could capture. There is a glare at the top of the photo, so concentrate on the lower portion of this pic for the most accurate representation of the shade.  It's close, but in real life Mount Royal has more of an indigo vibe than what is translating in this pic. It's more vivid and not as soft and muddled as it seems in this shot.

So there you have it! That's my complete and detailed review of the new American Apparel Nail Lacquers! I hope this helps some of you who have been on the fence about these--I want to assure you that, in my humble opinion, these are quality polishes and the colors are ah-maze-ing. You need some. Sorry, but it's true. :)

Oh, and when I ordered from the American Apparel website, I used a 10% code I found online, but now there is a 15% off code you can use (YAY!). Here it is: f469-fi52232. Also, I opted for the cheapest shipping rate ($5) and the website said it would take 7-12 days for me to get my package. I got the package in FOUR days, and I even ordered during the Christmas rush! Pretty incredible.

So tell me...what shades do you have your eye on? I'd love to know!

The Wednesday Question (end of year edition)

Since this will be the last Wednesday Question for 2009, I thought I'd take a look back and ask you the following question:

What's your favorite budget-friendly beauty product that was released in 2009?

It can be makeup, bath and body, haircare, nail care, skincare, fragrance, it doesn't matter--I would just LOVE to hear about your favorite product that was launched this year.

And please come back tomorrow because I will be rolling out my personal list of 2009 favorites--it will be fun to see if anything you list here has also made my list!

Drugstore Dupe Alert: Revlon ColorBurst lipstick in Soft Rose vs. NARS Dolce Vita!

If you took advantage of that crazy Sephora Beauty Insider gift code I talked about in early December, and then worked your savings even further by using other codes for free stuff, you may have gotten yourself one of the NARS mini lipgloss duos in Dolce Vita and Striptease.

But for those of you who did not get to take advantage of this deal, don't fret because you can still get your NARS Dolce Vita fix without the NARS price tag. A few days ago I discovered this:

NARS Dolce Vita (left), Revlon ColorBurst Soft Rose (right)

NARS Dolce Vita (left), Revlon ColorBurst Soft Rose (right)

Now of course the NARS is a lipgloss while the Revlon is a lipstick, but since NARS is an opaque gloss (looove it, btw) and Revlon is a sheer lipstick, the textures kind of meet in the middle and they're not too far off from each other in terms of shine.

The best part? NARS Dolce Vita lipgloss retails for $24 while the new Revlon ColorBurst lipsticks retail for $8.99 (and of course you can always wait for a BOGO and get an even better deal).

For my full review of the new Revlon ColorBurst lipstick collection, please click here.

So, what do you think of this dupe discovery? Are you a NARS Dolce Vita fan? If so, do you plan to look for Revlon Soft Rose?

Guess who just reviewed those new Rimmel polishes?

[7:02PM - UPDATE - The fabulous Magic Maid just granted my wish and swatched OPI You Don't Know Jacques for a side-by-side comparison to Rimmel Steel Grey. Click here to see the results.]

I love it when one of my fellow beauty bloggers reviews a product that I just mentioned in one of my drugstore reports! So if any of you were curious about the new Rimmel Lasting Finish Pro Polishes I mentioned the other day (click here for pics of the display at Walgreens), be sure to check out Magic Maid's review here of the one color in the collection that caught my eye, Steel Grey.

After looking at her mani, I am more convinced than ever that this shade is a great dupe of You Don't Know Jacques! and/or Metro Chic. And guess what? It's only $3.29!

Review: New NYC Extreme Lip Glider Lip Glosses

If you saw my drugstore report a few days ago about this new collection of NYC lipglosses, then you know that I was very excited to FINALLY see a new product from NYC (other than their seasonal color collections, I just haven't seen much from them in terms of brand new products lately).

I'm delighted to tell you that it was worth the wait, because these little Pixy Stix-shaped glosses are awesome!

NYC Extreme Lip Glider Lip Glosses (retail: $2.99):

The colors I purchased were Big Apple Red (top), and Chelsea Rose (bottom):

I put a CO Bigelow Mentha Lip Shine next to them so you can see how they compare in size:

As you can see, these NYC glosses have a plastic slant-tip applicator and I love how small the tip is because it allows you to apply your gloss with much more precision that a regular-sized slant-tip.

Here are some swatches on my hand:

These glosses pack a lot of pigment and sparkle even though they are sheer on application (as you will see in a minute).

So, how do I like these lipglosses? I LOVE 'EM! Here's why: first of all, they smell and taste exactly like a Watermelon Jolly Rancher. No joke--it's darn near identical! So fun. (But don't worry--if you don't like watermelon, the fragrance and flavor disappear after about 5-10 minutes.) Next, I love that even though those glosses are sheer, they are extremely pigmented (especially for a $2.99 gloss). Also, I LOVE the consistency. It's not too sticky, and not at all goopy. Literally, you can layer this gloss onto your lips with a VERY thick coating and it will not goop up in that area where your bottom and top lip come together. If you wear gloss, you know what I'm talking about!

I am a self-professed gloss eater and most glosses don't stand a chance at lasting more than 30 minutes on my fidgety lips. Since I have a bad habit of rubbing my lips together a lot when I wear gloss, I tend to really layer it on thick when I first apply it. Otherwise, I know it will be gone in 10 minutes. So what I love about this gloss is that I can put a very thick layer on and it looks fabulous with no goopy mess!

Here are some pics of both shades on my lips:

Big Apple Red

Chelsea Rose

Do you see that shine? It's amazing! I really, truly love it, and I cannot wait to go back and get some other shades. At just $2.99, I have to give this gloss my seal of approval as an official Bargain of the Day:

Congrats, NYC! These glosses are affordable AND they rock!

Review: New Maybelline Shine Sensational Lip Gloss in "Sweet Indulgence"

If you saw my "Drugstore Sightings" post a few days ago, then you know I went BANANAS when I saw these new gourmand-flavored lipglosses by Maybelline. Shine Sensational Lip Glosses seem like a pretty logical step for Maybelline to take in order to capitalize off their wildly popular Color Sensational Lipsticks (which you know I love). And I think it's a great idea considering that I haven't seen a major drugstore cosmetics brand come out with foody-flavored lipglosses in a while (remember Shine Delice from L'Oreal? I adored that collection).

But I never thought in a million years that I'd see such an array of flavors in a drugstore line of lipglosses. Maybelline, you have really outdone yourself here. With flavors that run the gamut from fresh mint leaves to crushed hard candy, chocolate truffles to guava, I was simply blown away by the packaging, selection of flavors and, of course, the array colors! From what I could remember, there were sheers, micro-glitters, shimmers and cremes.

In case you didn't see my earlier post, here are my blurry Blackberry phone pics taken of the display at Walgreens:

There are a total of 15 flavors to choose from, each yummier than the next. But the one that really brought me to my knees was Sweet Indulgence, which, if you look at the photo closely, just so happens to be the flavor of my favorite French pastry in the entire world, the macaron!

This HAD to be mine, on principle alone. A drugstore gloss in the flavor of an exquisite French pastry? What are you trying to do to me, Maybelline??

Maybelline Shine Sensational Lip Gloss in Sweet Indulgence:

I could stop here and be happy as a clam. This flavor trumps any past, present or future flavor released by the queen of drugstore flavored balms and glosses, Bonne Bell. It really does taste like a delicate little macaron (NOT to be be confused with the American macaroon, which is a dense, coconut-based cookie). A macaron is a tiny sandwich cookie that is light as air (think meringue), composed of egg whites, almond powder and sugar. The filling is usually cream or ganache-based. If you haven't tried a French macaron, I strongly recommend putting it on your to-do list.

The flavor of Sweet Indulgence nicely mimics the delicate flavor of a macaron, capturing both its lightness and its creamy filling. I'm in love.

But of course I need to tell you if this product truly delivers in the shine department (given its name, one would assume it's going to be uber shiny, right?). Well, that is where this little lovely failed me a bit. It's not the shiniest gloss I've ever come across (and maybe not even the second, third or fourth shiniest gloss I've ever come across) but the texture does have shine to it. I've heard reports that people aren't too jazzed about the pigmentation, however I cannot honestly say that the pigmentation lacks because I bought a light color to begin with. I knew going into this that the color would barely show up on my lips (which are of medium pigmentation).

So what about the texture? I like it! I think it's quite moisturizing and it's sticky enough to stay on your lips for a while, but not so sticky or tacky that you'll feel uncomfortable wearing it. It's a smooth lipgloss that I would turn to again and again--but for the flavor more than how it looks my lips.

Is it worth the retail price of $6.49? Well if you're a macaron lover like me, then yes. But for the rest of us, I'd wait for a BOGO sale and then pick up two. I believe that this collection is going to be known way more for its variety of yummy flavors than for its ability to make lips shine, but that's not necessarily a bad thing, is it? Maybe Maybelline should have called this collection "Tastes Sensational", which seems to be a more fitting title. :)

The next time there's a BOGO, I will be picking up the toffee-flavored gloss because it's a pinky-brown-rose creme, and then I can really determine the quality of the pigmentation.

Do you already own any Shine Sensational glosses? Do you plan to pick up any? I'd love to hear your thoughts!

Review: New Physicians Formula Healthy Wear SPF 50 Powder Foundation

Let me start this review by saying that powder foundations are my FAVORITE type of foundation. They're fantastic for oily skin, and if you can find one that works for you, there's simply not a quicker, more convenient way to apply foundation and get out the door FAST.

For years and years I used MAC Studio Fix, convinced that I could never find a better powder foundation with medium to full coverage (I tend to like my foundation more on the full-coverage side). But even while I was devoted to Studio Fix, I didn't love it. If you've used Studio Fix, you know that it can get a bit chalky and cakey if not applied carefully. But on those days when I need full coverage, it sucks to have to be careful and not apply too much. I don't want to have to apply my foundation with the precision of a surgeon--I just don't have the patience or time for that. I want to slap it on and be done with it, confident that it's going to look good and get me through the day with minimal touch-ups.

So if you're like me, then you might appreciate this review. Because I'm looking at this product STRICTLY on the basis of how quickly I can apply it, and how little I have to fuss with it. If I have to be careful, not use too much, apply with a special brush, etc. then it COMPLETELY defeats the purpose of using a powder foundation, which is all about convenience, right?

That said, let's begin!

Physicians Formula Healthy Wear SPF 50 Powder Foundation (I bought this at Rite Aid for $14.95 but the package comes with an instant "save $5" coupon attached, which of course I took advantage of):

As I mentioned in my earlier post about this product, the compact really jumps out at you. There's just no way this can get lost in your makeup bag, that's for sure! I also love the little pink ribbon that you can pull to open the compact.

And since this is SPF 50 (awesome!) I tried to take some pics of the active and inactive ingredients for you (excuse the blurriness but I had to take these w/o flash and my camera is awful at that setting):

I really like that the SPF 50 will continue working for up to 40 minutes after swimming or perspiring.

This product contains the standard talc and mica that most drugstore powders contain. I do like that it's paraben-free.

Something else I like is that it contains licorice extract and tomato to help brighten your skin. Natural ingredients are always a plus, right?

I love the hot-pink sponge!

The shade I chose is Translucent Medium 7071, which is actually a good match for my pale, wintertime NC20 skin.

So...the burning question: how does it work? Well, I used this product for five days straight, and while at first I wasn't exactly sold on it, it has grown on me immensely (that is why you should always test a product for several days before you decide you hate it!).

Day one: The first time I applied it, I used the sponge and applied it after applying my regular moisturizer and concealer. I liked that I was able to get full coverage almost instantly--no time was wasted having to layer and layer to build the coverage I need. BUT, I did noticed that it looked a bit cakey on certain parts of my face. I could see the pores on my nose, and the dry patches of skin on my cheeks. This is something that used to happen when I used MAC Studio Fix, but it NEVER happens when I use my beloved Prestige Multi-Finish Wet/Dry Powder Foundation in "Wheat" which I have been using for quite a while now. BUT, the Prestige product is getting harder and harder to find in drugstores (although I have been assured by a representative of Prestige that they are NOT discontinuing it). But still, it's nice to have a back-up product at the ready, so I didn't want to give up on this just yet.

Day two: I used the same method as day one, but this time I made sure to use a touch more moisturizer prior to application. The difference was incredible, really. I didn't see the cakey area around my nose or cheeks, and it just looked smoother all around. The coverage of this foundation is truly impressive for a drugstore powder foundation (sometimes I actually believe that the powder foundations you find at the drugstore are pretty much the exact same formula as regular powder compacts and they just call them "foundation").

Days three, four and five: You know this product was working for me if I chose to wear it on Christmas Day. I have got to say that I am delighted with the full coverage it provides, and the color really matches my skin. The ONLY warning I want to give you is that, if you have dry skin, take extra precautions and moisturize like crazy before applying this (if your skin is super dry you probably don't generally use powder foundations anyway, but I still want to throw that out there). But if your skin is very oily like mine, you have a VERY good chance at keeping your oilies at bay for the entire day with this foundation. I was amazed that I didn't have a shiny nose by mid-day while wearing this (yes, it's the winter and the true test will be in the summer, but still!).

Another observation: Like many other powder foundations, this one needs to set a bit on your skin before it looks its best. So if you try this and you see the cakiness or notice little dry patches on your face, wait about 20 minutes and check again. For me, once this powder interacts with my natural oils, it looks a lot softer and more natural. Another added bonus: I swear this foundation made my blush last longer AND look brighter! I have been using one of my normal Sally Girl powder blushes for the past few days and I swear the color is more intense when put it on top of this foundation, and it lasts until I'm ready for bed!

Here's a swatch of a VERY generous amount of this powder foundation on the back of my hand:

Granted, this pic is an extreme close-up, but I just wanted to show you how it looks without any lotion/moisturizer underneath. So be sure to use moisturizer before application! If you look at the bottom of the pic, you can see how the redness of my skin is neutralized by this foundation--I'm telling you, this has excellent coverage that really lasts. So far, I am loving this foundation and it's GREAT to know that I have a quality alternative to my beloved Prestige foundation. I really can't wait to see how this performs in the summertime.

So, are you a powder foundation fan? What's your favorite drugstore powder foundation? Do you think you'll give this one a shot?

Drugstore alert: New Rimmel polishes, NYC lipglosses, Revlon eyeshadows and more!

As if yesterday's L'Oreal and Maybelline post wasn't enough to kickstart the new year, I came across some other goodies at my local Rite Aid and Walgreens over the weekend so let's get right into it!

At Rite Aid I spotted this new collection of lipglosses from NYC. It seems like it's been FOREVER since NYC released anything new and they really outdid themselves with these:

NYC Extreme Lip Glider Lip Glosses (retail: $2.99)

I kind of freaked out when I saw these because, with their long tube and cinched end, they TOTALLY reminded me of Pixy Stix candy!

It was impossible to capture the shades with my Blackberry but there are lots of pinks, neutrals, and one in particular, which I am regretting not purchasing, was a deep ruby red with tons of shimmer. Here are the two I purchased:

Big Apple Red (top), Chelsea Rose (bottom)

I will post my review of these tomorrow so please check back--there's something about these glosses that is VERY fun, so come back and check it out. :)

Next we have the new Revlon eyeshadow singles (retail: $4.99):

Sorry for the blurry pics but this display was in a very bad location (bottom shelf under bright florescent light) so it was impossible for me to take good pics.

These shadows are in the two new finishes that Revlon is rolling out: "Satin" and "Perle".

The display is broken down into Satins on the left, and Perles on the right.

The Satins are described as having a "smooth shimmering finish". I have to say that in person, they are quite impressive because the colors look deep and rich and you can see the shimmer thought it's not over-the-top.

The Perles are described as having a "sparkling crystallized finish".  To me, these kind of looked like matte shadows that are mixed with a ton of sparkle.

The only obvious dupe I saw was Black Galaxy:

In person, Black Galaxy reminds me a lot of the legendary NARS Night Clubbing, but with maybe not as much gold micro-glitter and more multi-colored micro-glitter. But you get the idea--it's a flat black with tons of micro-glitter. Very pretty.

Next, I spotted an eyeshadow palette display by a brand called "Princessa" which I had never heard of before. I've noticed that Rite Aid is starting to carry more interesting cheapie eyeshadow palettes lately, and this collection definitely caught my eye (retail for each palette: $5.99):

I just could NOT resist getting the palette on the right and here it is:

Check back for my review (which might surprise you) later this week!

Moving on to Walgreens, in addition to all those new Maybelline and L'Oreal products I posted about yesterday, I always found a few other interesting things, such as this new nail polish collection by Rimmel:

Rimmel Lasting Finish Pro Nail Polish Collection

What seems to set these apart from other Rimmel polishes is the "pro brush" and that you can get "up to 10 days" of wear.

The only shade that really stood out to me was the You Don't Know Jacques!/Metro Chic dupe:

I forget the name, but as you can see it's definitely a dupe of those other gray-browns.

If any of you try these new Rimmel Last Finish Pro polishes, I would love to hear about how they wear.

And finally, here's the one new Neutrogena product I spotted at Walgreens:

Neutrogena Healthy Skin Custom Glow Blush & Bronzer

As you can see, each palette comes with blush on one side and a corresponding bronzer on the other. These really remind me of a customized mark. palette I had YEARS ago.  Anyway, if you look at the middle row, you can see that the blush looks like a dupe of NARS Orgasm. Might be worth investigating...

I think I've done my fair share of drugstore reporting for the week, so please come back and check out actual product reviews in the days to come!

In the meantime, do you plan to pick up any of these new products? As always, I'd love to hear your thoughts!
