Sharpen your liners like a pro (for pennies!)

One thing I know for sure is that I never like to spend money on sharpeners. They're not fun to buy, they're not fun to look at and they're definitely not fun to clean. But they're a necessity, which means most of us have to buy them. But the thing is, whenever I try to cut costs and buy an inexpensive sharpener, it never sharpens my liners to perfection, and I loooove a sharp, clean point on my pencils (as I'm sure you do too).

So thanks to longtime reader beautifulmonday, I've got a GREAT tip on getting a fabulous sharpener that is nearly identical to a sharpener that costs about seven times as much:

Select Fergie Nail Polishes now part of Wet n Wild permanent display at Walgreens

Remember the Wet n Wild Fergie polishes I showed you back in June? By now, I'm sure most of you have spotted the end-cap display at your local Walgreens, but I've got some good news for those of you who haven't been able to find certain shades in your area!

A huge thanks to longtime photo-contributor and friend of Nouveau Cheap, Rach, who spotted FOURTEEN of the original 25 shades in the PERMANENT Wet n Wild wall display at Walgreens:

You'll be happy to know that the two most talked-about shades in this collection, A024 Tonight's Gonna Be A Good Night (black glitter) and A009 Walk of Fame (star glitter) are BOTH part of this permanent display:

Thanks to reader CN for that tip!

Ricky's - check out their White Hot Summer Clearance Sale right now, with lots and lots of deeply discounted goodies. Definitely worth a look, and remember that orders $50+ ship free. And the Matisse Elite polish sale is still going on as well.

Clarins (Facebook) - "Like" Clarins on Facebook to access their Mono Eyeshadows for $10 (regularly $20). Thanks to @midgetwarri0r for the scoop on that!

Haute Look deals!

Haute Look Alert!

  • Reader Sydney let us know that RIGHT NOW on Haute Look there are over 40 shades of mini Orly polishes for $2.50 each and also mini Flash Dry Drops and Top2Bottom (also $2.50 each). As of the time of this post, only three shades have sold out, so there's still a very good selection.

  • Reader CA let us know that Wednesday (8/8) starting at 8AM Pacific, e.l.f. is going to be on Haute Look. I have no idea what they'll be offering, but the promo photo shows eyeshadow palettes.

  • Also, I just noticed that on FRIDAY (8/10) Urban Decay is going to be on Haute Look (starting at 8AM Pacific) and I'm wondering if there will be items not included in the sale that's going on over at the Urban Decay website right now. Hum...

Thanks so much, Sydney and CA, for the heads-up about these deals!

PS: For those new to Haute Look, it's a members-only shopping site so you won't be able to see the deals unless you're a member. Membership is free and it usually takes less than 24 hours to be approved.

What I'm Loving Right Now

It's been a long time since I did a "What I'm Loving Right Now" post, so I thought I'd revisit this feature and tell you what I'm absolutely obsessed with at the moment!

(All links will take you to my original review unless otherwise noted)

Milani Illuminiating Face Powder in Hermosa Rose ($9.49) - I'm addicted to highlighters, and my favorite for months now has been Hermosa Rose. I apply it with a dense kabuki brush, and it gives the tops of my cheeks and the area above my brows the prettiest, most subtle glow. I'm not big on lots of shimmer or sparkle in my highlighters, and this one's just perfect for a soft, natural-looking glow. Plus, it works well with the neutral and earthtone colors I usually wear on the rest of my face and my oily skin loves that it's a powder instead of a cream or liquid highlighter.

Dupe alert!

e.l.f. Essential Beauty School Eyeshadow Compact in Neutral

So remember the e.l.f. Essential Beauty School Eyeshadow Compact in Neutral that I reviewed a few days ago? After I posted my review, reader iknowhowtolove2 said she thought that the matte brown shadow in the e.l.f. palette reminded her of Urban Decay Buck. I totally agreed with her comment, so I whipped out my Urban Decay Naked Palette to take a look. Keep reading to see what happened when I compared the two, and what else I discovered...

Eye candy: Prestige Vanity Flair Palette

Remember a few weeks ago when I posted that the new Vanity Flair Palette from Prestige ships free (no code needed) on the Prestige website? Well that promotion is STILL going on, and this palette is also available  in-store at Rite Aid (click here for pics of the display). I finally found it in my area so I wanted to share a pic with you in case you were thinking about ordering it online:

Prestige Vanity Flair Palette
(retail: $15)

NOTE: there is a clear plastic overlay on top of these shadows, but I don't think it alters the colors too much in the above picture.

As you can see, there are seven shimmers here, one matte and one sparkly shimmer. As mentioned in my previous post, these are all new shades created specifically for this palette. In my original post, reader Gothic Daisy told us about the free shipping offer, so I want to thank her again for that info! Also, she said that Knockout might be a good dupe for NARS California, and now that I've seen Knockout in person, I think it definitely could be!

To order online (with free shipping) click here. I just checked to make sure that the offer is still valid, and it is. All you have to do is put the palette in your cart and when you check out, your shipping will be $0.00.

Review: LA Girl Magnetic Nail Polish in Magnetic Field

If 2011 was The Year of the Crackle, then 2012 is definitely The Year of the Magnetic. The first drugstore magnetic polish that popped up in my local drugstores was the collection from Pretty Woman back in January (which was the first magnetic polish I ever owned/reviewed here), followed by the Sally Hansen Magnetics, and then the limited edition Wet n Wild Magnetics and finally these magnetic polishes from LA Girl, which have been available online for a while, but only recently started to pop up in various Rite Aid locations in the past few months.

I was at a "foreign" Rite Aid last week (aka: a Rite Aid outside of my town that I rarely frequent) and I finally spotted the LA Girl display for myself. For some reason it just hasn't been available in the Rite Aids near my home, and by the time I found this display, it was completely wiped out except for one lonely bottle, which is the one I purchased.

NOTE: these polishes retail for $6 on the LA Girl site and at Cherry Culture (they're actually currently on sale for $5), but if you're lucky enough to find them at Rite Aid, they're only $3.99 there.

So I created some beauty-related internet memes today...

I'm kind of obsessed with internet memes, so I thought it would be fun to create some that are unique to the beauty community. As is the case with internet memes, you don't ever really know who created each one, so if you share these with anyone (or on your own blog) you of course don't have to credit me (but I did create all of the following memes using memegenerator). L'Oreal Fall 2012 Project Runway Collection: there's MORE!

Remember on Friday when I gave you a link to the advance pics of the new L'Oreal Project Runway Fall 2012 collection? Well thanks to long-time reader Donna for letting us know that that's NOT ALL there is to this new collection! Nicole over at Beauty Stat has a review of the NAIL STRIPS that are also part of the Project Runway collection. They are so cute I can hardly stand it! (The playing card design is probably going to be a must-have for you rockabilly/pin-up girls out there!)

PS: All of the Project Runaway products are limited edition, so do NOT hesitate to grab what you want when you see it. If you wait, you could miss out. The official release date for this collection is September, but as I mentioned before, we all know that LE collections have a habit of showing in stores a bit earlier than their official release dates. So keep your eyes peeled!

Thanks so much, Donna, for the heads-up!
